GW : warming of himalayas may lead to flood

According to the recent studies it has been found that the temperature in the himalayan region is constantly increasing since the last few years. This may lead to a warming of the himalayan ice nd glaciers. It has been predicted that the melting of glaciers may lead to the overflow of 40 himalayan lakes.
The local temperature of himalayan region is found to be 1 deg celcius more than what it was in 1970s. Almost 20 lakes in Nepal and 24 in Bhutan have become more dangerous and they are expected to grab their banks within 5 to 10 years.
This melting of himalayas is really to worry about as this can ultimately lead to the drying of all the freshwater systems and rivers.

GW : Honda's new creation towards reduction of fuel pollution and global warming : The Zero-Emission car

concept behind the creation :

A "fuel stack" which acts as a carrier of the hydrogen somewhere between the driver and the passenger, is there to pass the hydrogen. It is then transformed into electricity which powers the engine. The quality is that unlike the rest of the cars, it doesn't emit CO2 but emits water vapours. Although water vapours are also involved in global warming but much much less than CO2.

About the car :

These cars use hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity instead of the harmful petrol to ignite and start the engine. This will in turn firstly save the fossil fuel for further times and on the other hand also saves the environment from the harmful emission of these fuels. This creation of honda can prove to be a big revolution towards the reduction of global warming which occurs due to the emission of these fuels.

GW : Scientists using Algae to capture carbon dioxide

According to the recent studies, America is found to be the largest contributor to the greenhouse gases to the atmosphere especially CO2. Now scientists have found a natural way to eliminate the carbon dioxide up to a certain level which will be definitely beneficial in further decreasing the global warming.

what is algae ?? :

Algae are micro organisms which captures the sunlight's energy through photosynthesis and use that light of sun to convert the inorganic substances to organic matter

Using algae :

David Bayless, a professor at the Ohio university, in Athens, has developed a photo bioreactor which uses photosynthesis process to grow the algae just like a plant would take carbon dioxide up and, through the energy of the sun, convert that into oxygen.

ND : Ozone can be hazardous too !!!!!

Ozone is a form of oxygen gas. There's nothing much to describe about ozone as we all know of it and its importance to the mankind.

ozone can be hazard !!!

yes, it seems very awkward to all of us but yeah, ozone can be a hazard also to the humans and animals.Actually animals do live on the lower level of the atmosphere where, the presence of ozone can cause respiratory problems and disease.Mainly the power producing units produces the gases which can result in the formation of ozone gas which gets trapped at the lower atmosphere affecting the animals here including humans.

GW : Can we minimise the rising temperature ??

The only way to stop the global warming is to put breaks on the running temperatures. But are we sure its possible, when the technology has advanced to an stage from where it can't be reversed.

According to the studies, if we have to stop the temperature from increasing by 2 deg. celcius till 2050, then every year we have to decrease the consumption of greenhouse gases by 7 million tons. Now the question arises .... "Is this possible"???

GW : Global warming and our rivers

Increasing climatic temperatures are continuously affecting the rivers of our country. Our India is unimaginable without rivers because its we only who have categorized our rivers amongst holy rivers, unlike the rivers in other countries.

Rivers and the threat on them :

Its a matter of serious concern that the glacier of the rivers in our country are melting at a rate of 1.7 m per year. This melting of ice has been very much during the period of the past decade i.e. 1998-2007. This is the reason Gangotri has shifted 23 m forward. According to the current news, 7 rivers flowing in the countries India, Nepal, & China including Ganga, Brahmaputra, Yellow river etc. are in danger indicating nearly one-fourth population is under threat.

GW : effect of global warming on biodiversity

What is Biodiversity ? :

Its the variation found in the life forms living within an ecosystem, biome etc. Today the biodiversity consists of species million in numbers.

Biodiversity in threat due to global warming :

  • It is predicted that more than 80% of biodiversity loss will be there due to the global warming.
  • more than 50,000 species of plants and animals will be under threat of global warming that will be directly affecting the livings there.
  • India is a country flooded with biodiversity. So undoubtedly India will be facing more disastrous effects of global warming

GW : Famine - The logical reason behind its occurence

Obviously there will be effect of the rising temperature of earth on the climatic cycle here. This can certainly turn the mood of the Indian weather.
Now its since the beginning that the agricultural industry of our country is dependent on the monsoon rain we get from our nature. This will be definitely leading to a famine situation here, which in turn will be surely affecting the economics and material goods.

ND : June 17 - Earth cracked in U.P.

Uttar Pradesh recorded an alarming threat in form of fissures ( cracks ) appearing on the ground in seven districts of Uttar Pradesh which included the districts Lucknow, Allahabad, Hamirpur, Kakori, Kanpur, Meja Road etc. Cracks were not only seen on the grounds but also on the houses of local residents in Meja Road & Hamirpur districts that forced the people living there to vacate their home. Local people were frightened of the cracks thinking it was an earthquake. Studies said that a wide area is under threat of these kind of cracks. It may happen in the other areas also. Most importantly, three important rail routes including Howrah-Delhi route going via Allahabad and Kanpur is under the threat zone.

Cause of the cracks :

Although these kind of cracks were never seen before in the history according to the sources. But scientists predicted a quick and a no doubt a genuine reason for this. Its the scarcity of ground water in these areas that paved an easy way to this. In fact this scarcity happened just due to excessive exploitation of the ground water. Secondly, these days excessive mining is going on in these areas. Mining causes the earth layer to weaken and show these cracks in return. Mining can be any type, say, drilling for boring purposes, coal mining etc. But this happens due to large scale minings according to the scientists.

ND : Earthquakes : Is there any positive ?

Till now we've only gone through the destruction created by earthquakes. viz. how much buildings were damaged, no. of casualties it took away, how much economic loss it did etc. But on the other hand there are undoubtedly some positive that the earthquake does. No need to tell that this gain of the earthquakes is much more less than the destruction it does, but its always said that anything having a negative impact also leaves behind at least a bit of positive also, & so does the earthquake.
Lets have a look on some.

Benefits earthquakes have given
:

Over the last few decades, or say over the last century, some of the world's most destructive quakes have helped us in getting valuable informations about any type of quake so that we can implement the safety measures accordingly. Secondly the earthquakes have also helped to know more about any area 'geographically'. Taking it to the other way, earthquakes have helped many developing societies to decide their place to continue the development of their civilization. Another area in which earthquakes have proved to be helpful in the technology + architecture area. In fact shaking of earth has been more striking in the development of specific earthquake-proofing codes, which are the requirements architects and builders must follow before constructing in an area. These codes were first implemented in California in 1927, after there was a massive earthquake there in 1925.

GW : Can Oceans also get warmed by global warming??

There can be some much markable effects of the global warming on the oceans . Lets us first know some important figures before going ahead :

In the period from 1961 to 2003, the temperature of the ocean on the earth from it's surface to a depth of 700m has increased by 0.10 deg. celcius. However, There was some cooling of the ocean water from from 2003 to 2007. Warming in fact reduces the ability of ocean water to absorb the CO2.

Let us see some predicted dangers of warming of ocean :

Anything on warming or heating expands as we all know. So obviously there can be an expansion in the ocean water also. Also additional water from the locked up Ice in the glaciers also will get mixed up with the ocean water to increase its volume. It is predicted that by 2050, the glaciers on the earth will be just 40% of today. As a result the increased volume of water of oceans can result in the engulfing at least the coastal areas of some countries. And the more disastrous results we all know of the global warming.

ND : 2012 : Will The Solar Flares strike the earth ?

What are Solar Flares :

Firstly, it was thought that solar flares are a tremendous explosion in the sun resulting to the release of a huge amount of energy at once, and which is enough for the destruction of earth. But the fact is that solar flares are actually the maxima of the sun which the sun acheives after some span of time regularly due to certain storms at its surface because of the presence of spots there. Some scientists say that it is 11 years after which sun comes once in this state. At this time, the heat coming from the sun gets 7 times the original heat, according to the study.

Flare fear in 2012 :

Actually this time, the time of sun acheiving its maxima has passed. Scientists are having a fear of a huge flare this time. The reason is that sun is not showing any kind of activity which it shows because of the presence of these spots. Sun is showing a strange silence this time of which the whole team of NASA is concerned. In fact they are treating this behaviour as "silence just before storm".

Consequences of the Flare :

Due to the solar flares, firstly the magnetic poles of the earh will get reversed resulting in a huge destruction. The whole system of the earth will get disturbed starting with the communications to the working of the satellites. It is also predicted that whole of the transport system and wireless will stop working.Imagine the situation when you won't be able to talk to any other person on mobile. Imagine your mobiles with no GPRS. Imagine no channels on your T.V. and no radio channel working. Strange to think, but this situation can happen on the predicted date 21st december 2012 which, according to the Mayans, is the year of the end of the earth.

ND : no more ganga !!!!!!!

A small description of gangotri glacier :

* Location : Uttarakashi district, Uttarakhand, india near indo-china border
* It's the actual source of river ganga. It is about 30 Km long and about 3 Kms wide
* It's terminus is situated at the place named as GOMUKH which is a source of bhagirathi river , a tributary of river ganga

Ganga according to hindu mythology :

According to the hindu mythology ganga came on the earth on the request of the rishi Bhagirath for the upliftment of his ancestors.the river came on earth but with the flow that was going to create a disaster by the river on earth.so the lord shiva kept the extra flow in his hairs (jataa).and since den the holy river is on the earth and is making us to feel the presence of god on this earth.

Ganga facing Global Warming :

Due to the global warming the ganga has faced a very bad circumstances especially in the last 2 decades (nearly 15 years).the gangotri glacier has shifted to a very large distance and the prediction based on present situations tells that the river will become a seasonal river in 20-25 years from now and after 50 yrs from now the river will be no more.Just think of the india without it's pride "ganga".

Apart from global warming, it is also a matter of serious concern that the pollution is continuously making the river water more and more poisonous.Upto rishikesh it's water is guud for drinking and bathing both.At haridwar it becomes nice but only for bathing. At kanpur,Allahabad and Varansi, it is just suitable for bathing.and at patna,it's neither remains suitable for bath and for drinking !!!!!! leave it..In west bengal, it's water becomes that much contaminated that it can kill the water living organisms.

GW : Alarming rates of melting of polar ice

According to the Recent NASA's survey, it has been found that due to the alarming pace of melting the arctic sea ice, the estimation of the total time to melt the total ice has decreased very drastically. It can be more clear from the relevant datas :

1996 : Whole Arctic Ice was estimated to be melted by 2070

2003 : Whole Arctic Ice was estimated to be melted by 2035

2008 : Whole Arctic Ice is estimated to be melted by 2025

See the satellite pictures shown above. The left one is a picture in the year 1971.The right one is a picture in the year 2003.
The Ice melting rate is Increasing by 2.5% each year.

Global Warming is not the problem created by us.But we all have contributed to it and that too upto an extent which is beyond our imagination. Now it's only "WE" who has to figure out how to solve it and how to live with this global warming. It's "our" world and "our" turn.
So, please let this world go to greenery.
Contribute as much as you can to make the globe green.
Fight the disaster created by "you".
